Best for

  • Basements and below-grade rooms where moisture is a real risk
  • Lake homes, rentals, and high-traffic family spaces
  • Households with dogs, cats, kids, and the occasional spilled drink
  • Homeowners who want the wood look without the hardwood maintenance
!

Not the best fit if

  • Buyers focused purely on resale comp value (real hardwood still wins)
  • Spaces over uneven slabs that have not been leveled first
  • Anyone who wants a warm, sound-absorbing floor (consider carpet instead)
  • Direct-sun installs with no climate control - LVP can fade over time

Construction

Stone-polymer and wood-polymer cores.

SPC (stone-polymer composite) is dimensionally stable, dense, and ideal for radiant heat or rooms with significant temperature swings. WPC (wood-polymer composite) is lighter and warmer underfoot.

Wear layers run from 12 mil for residential use up to 28 mil for commercial. We help you match the wear layer to the actual traffic the floor will see.

Where it fits

Basements, kitchens, lake homes, rentals.

For basements and rentals, rigid-core LVP handles the moisture, the temperature swings, and the abuse without checking back in for ten years.

In primary kitchens we recommend LVP when you want the look of wood with the worry-free durability of vinyl.

Luxury Vinyl (LVP) install detail
Install

Flat substrate first. Floor second.

A floating click-lock LVP install is only as good as the substrate underneath. We confirm the floor is within manufacturer flatness spec before any plank goes down, and patch-and-feather anything more than 3/16 inch out of plane.

Transitions, expansion gaps, and end joints all follow manufacturer spec to keep the warranty intact.

After the install

How to keep it looking new - and what is covered if it does not.

Care & maintenance

  • Sweep or vacuum (no beater bar) weekly to keep grit out of the wear layer
  • Damp-mop with a vinyl-safe cleaner - skip the wax and the steam mops
  • Wipe spills promptly even though the floor is waterproof
  • Use felt pads under furniture, replace caster wheels with non-marking

Warranty coverage

  • Lifetime workmanship warranty on every install we manage
  • Manufacturer warranty pass-through - typically 15-25 year residential, lifetime waterproof
  • Wear-layer warranty proportional to mil thickness (12 mil residential, 28 mil commercial)
  • Free 30-day post-install touch-up on transitions and trim

Luxury vinyl plank installation across the Coulee Region

LVP is the fastest-growing flooring category in the Coulee Region, and for good reason. Modern rigid-core luxury vinyl plank looks like hardwood, costs less than hardwood, and survives the basements, kitchens, mudrooms, and lake-home situations that real wood cannot handle.

MVP Interiors installs LVP across western Wisconsin, southeast Minnesota, and northeast Iowa. From single-room basement refreshes to whole-home rental conversions, every install starts with the same care: moisture testing, subfloor inspection, vapor barrier, and proper expansion gaps.

When LVP is the right answer

LVP is the right answer for any room where moisture, traffic, or budget would make hardwood the wrong choice. Basements, kitchens, mudrooms, lake homes, rental properties, and main living areas in homes with active dogs and kids all benefit from LVP.

It is also the smart middle-ground for homeowners who want a beautiful, low-maintenance floor that does not require the vigilance hardwood needs. You spill, you wipe, you move on. The floor handles the rest.

What separates premium LVP from bargain product

The flooring market is crowded with LVP, and not all of it is built the same. Premium luxury vinyl plank has thicker wear layers (20 mil residential, 28 mil commercial), denser cores, embossed-in-register texture (where the surface bumps match the visual grain), and longer manufacturer warranties.

Bargain LVP has thin wear layers that scratch in the first year, soft cores that telegraph subfloor imperfections, flat-printed visuals that look obviously fake, and warranties that mean nothing in practice. We carry product from manufacturers who back their warranties - it is one of the reasons our LVP installs hold up.

Luxury Vinyl (LVP) cost factors

What goes into a luxury vinyl plank estimate.

We do not advertise a single per-square-foot number because real flooring projects are not single-variable equations. Here are the factors that move the price up or down on a typical luxury vinyl (lvp) install.

  1. 01

    Wear-layer thickness

12 mil is the residential baseline. 20 mil is the better answer for homes with dogs and kids. 28 mil and up is commercial-grade and the right call for rentals and high-traffic floors. The wear layer dictates the warranty length more than any other variable.

  2. 02

    Core construction (SPC vs WPC)

SPC (stone-polymer composite) is dimensionally stable, dense, and more affordable per square foot. WPC (wood-polymer composite) is warmer underfoot, slightly thicker, and the better feel - but costs more. We help you choose based on the room.

  3. 03

    Plank size and visual quality

Larger planks (7-9 inch wide, 60-72 inch long) cost more but read more like real hardwood. Embossed-in-register texture (where the surface texture matches the visual) costs more than flat-printed visuals but looks dramatically more authentic.

  4. 04

    Install method

Click-lock floating install is the standard and the most affordable - planks lock together without glue. Glue-down install costs more in labor but is the right choice for commercial spaces or rooms over 1,500 square feet where dimensional stability matters more.

  5. 05

    Subfloor condition

LVP is a floating click-lock floor in most installs, which means subfloor flatness matters. Anything more than 3/16 inch out of plane over 8 feet needs leveling compound. Old vinyl glued to slab needs scraping. We bake all of this into the quote.

Luxury Vinyl (LVP) questions

Frequently asked questions about luxury vinyl plank.

Real questions we get on luxury vinyl (lvp) estimates - answered straight, with no high-pressure follow-up.

What is luxury vinyl plank flooring?

+

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is a multi-layer waterproof flooring product designed to look like real wood. Modern LVP has a rigid core (either stone-polymer or wood-polymer composite), an embossed-in-register decorative layer, and a clear urethane wear layer that protects against scratches and stains.

Is LVP really 100% waterproof?

+

The plank itself is waterproof. Standing water on the surface, spilled drinks, and pet accidents will not damage modern rigid-core LVP. However, the seams between planks are not watertight, so water that pools long enough can work between boards and reach the subfloor. Wipe up spills, and avoid letting standing water sit for hours, even on waterproof flooring.

LVP vs hardwood - which is better?

+

Hardwood adds more resale value and ages with character that LVP cannot match. LVP wins on durability, water resistance, and price. The right answer depends on the room: hardwood for main living spaces in homes you plan to stay in long-term; LVP for basements, lake homes, kitchens, and rentals.

Can LVP go in my basement?

+

Yes - LVP is the single best flooring choice for finished basements in the Coulee Region. Rigid-core LVP handles the moisture, the temperature swings between summer and winter, and the occasional small leak. We test the slab for moisture and confirm it is below the manufacturer threshold before installation, then put down a vapor barrier underlayment.

How long does LVP installation take?

+

Single-room LVP installs run one day. A full-basement install runs two to three days. Whole-home LVP runs three to five days depending on square footage. Click-lock floating install is fast because there is no nailing, no gluing, and no finishing time - we deliver, install, and you walk on it the same day.

Will LVP fade in direct sunlight?

+

Cheap LVP fades. Quality LVP from manufacturers we carry has UV-stable wear layers and fade warranties of 10 to 25 years. We avoid the bargain-bin product because it does not hold up, and we always recommend window film or UV-protective treatments in rooms with heavy direct sun.

Can I put LVP over my existing tile or vinyl?

+

Sometimes yes. If the existing floor is flat, intact, and not damaged, LVP can install directly over it - which saves the demo cost. If the old floor is cracked, lifting, or uneven, it needs to come up first. We make that call during the in-home estimate so the quote is accurate.

How do I clean LVP flooring?

+

Sweep or vacuum (no beater bar) weekly to keep grit off the wear layer - that is what scratches it. Damp-mop with a vinyl-specific cleaner or a 50/50 vinegar-water solution. Skip the steam mop, the wax, and any oil-based cleaners. Wipe spills as they happen even though the floor is waterproof.

Financing

12-month same-as-cash and 84-month fixed-rate plans available.

Most decisions return in minutes. We work with GreenSky and Synchrony so you can lock the project, then choose terms that fit your budget.
